In the effort to improve the ole' yard for it's first full growing season under Bill's (and my?) jurisdiction, Bill wanted to put in a place to grow our own veggies. In addition to being super impressed with my friend Courtney's gardening prow, we've been going to a series at church about the ethical implications of our food choices. The discussion is led by Nashville chef Martha Stamps and addresses ways to reduce oil use from foods trucked across country, kind treatment of animals we get our nourishment from, and encouraging sustainable agriculture by researching where our foods are coming from and how they are grown. It's been inspiring to learn how our city has embraced the "locavore" movement, and has me a little excited!
So in addition to the veggies supplied by our highly anticipated (anticipated by me, that is) CSA membership, here's what is shaping up to be Bill's slice of Mesopotamia...
Here with the existing shrubbery
with the weeds removed and bushes gone...
And the boards to be nailed into a garden box.
Court, we totally picked up the Square Foot Garden book while we were there too
I swore I got some foxy pictures of Bill's backside during the assembly process... but somehow he must have forgotten to email those ones to me... hmmm...
I can't wait to see the final product. Even though it'll be producing some delicious treats all summer, I'm excited to see them grow. Plus I'm am extremely jealous of the weather you are having right now. Unreal!
