Float Day Down the Caney Fork
The 4th of July (aka Happy America) is one of my very favorite holidays, primarily because I feel Celeste and I have some ownership over it - having spent our first one together floating the Jefferson River back in Montana. This was the second summer Celeste made the trip to spend the 4th of July in Nashville with me, and this year she brought Eva!!!

Casey, Emily, and Monica

Me and Celeste.... Celeste doing most of the hard work
To continue the floating tradition and to escape the Tennessee heat, the three of us - joined by Emily, Casey, and Monica - booked a canoe trip for the Friday before the 4th. The decision was made to test out the waters of the Caney Fork River, about an hour east of Nashville. Unlike the Harpeth river - another Middle Tennessee floating destination - the water for the current in the Caney Fork comes directly out of Center Hill Lake, making the river nice and chilly.

The rental company, Canoe the Caney, made it so all we had to do was show up with our lunches and drinks and they loaded up the boats, paddles, and jackets and drove us to the drop off directly below the Center Hill Dam. I love this region of Tennessee. Everything is so green and hilly and it seems a very peaceful change from the hustle in downtown Nashville. Lots of other folks were out enjoying the Friday too... some on canoes and many other out fishing.

Em was so sweet to pack us lunch for the float and the weather couldn't have been more perfect for a day on the river. It was such a treat to be able to have a little adventure like this with Celeste and Eva in town. I miss them tons and can't wait for next Happy America!
